I’m sure the printing press didn’t just arrive, perfect in a big bang. I’m guessing there were a whole bunch of different designs. Today’s Artificial Intelligence similarly has a few different approaches.
And I’m sure those that “hand code” today won’t lose their jobs tomorrow, but will gradually transition to more industrial ways of working.
